Week 8

During the progression of Week 8, our objectives were to collect more data from our kite and start putting together our final presentation.

As aforementioned in last week's blog, it is necessary for us to test the kite to see how far it glides as well as how long it can stay in the air. Taking the measurements just once, didn't seem to be enough or even accurate, thus we decided to do multiple trial runs and get measurements for each. This week's measurements showed drastic improvement in our kite since the time it stayed in the air increased by 30 seconds and the distance by two feet. We believe that this occurred due to the added weight to the tail of the kite since it wasn't nose-diving anymore.

After collecting our final data and completing our last prototype, we started working on the presentation. We were able to complete the majority of the PowerPoint during class time, but we will still put finishing touches on our own time. Furthermore, we decided it would be necessary for the group to meet a few times in the next two weeks to practice the presentation together. An issue that we encountered was achieving a consistent flying time because it varied each time we attempted to fly the kite. The end result was a success after we modified the position we were holding the kite at. For weeks 9 and 10, we plan on practicing flying the kite and practicing the actual presentation.
