Week 6
Pictured above is the finished prototype for this week. As you can see, the frame is made of wire and it is bent slightly in multiple areas. Every time the kite would fail and fall, it was deformed because the wire was so flexible. Our group decided that while we liked the basic design and shape, wire was not going to work for our final design.
Therefore, we decided to go for a more solid choice. The structure is not made of wooden kabob sticks which allow it to be perfectly straight and sturdy. We were able to keep it light while adding stability to our design. We were still able to incorporate the wire into the design by using it as a horizontal bar that we will eventually be able to tie the kite line to.
It is the same general design and size with a few alterations. The vertice in which the two sticks connect is at an exact 90 degree angle. It is slightly larger- we wanted more surface area to help with the air time and flight stability. This week, we will add the plastic body and kite line. We are optimistic about this design- it might even be ready for final testing!
